Carb Day

I was reminded that today was Carb Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so I was really interested in seeing just what the heck was going on out there. I remembered all the vendors inside and outside the track selling funnel cakes, beer, lemon shake-ups, Italian sausage, hot dogs, and hamburgers. I thought “wow, Indianapolis is getting really progressive. They had changed the menus just for today to breads, pastas, beans, potatoes, bran, rice and cereals”. A high Carb diet is supposed to be really healthy and full of essential elements for good nutrition. I’m always interested in eating right and staying fit, so I just couldn’t stay away. I had to be a part of it.

OK, OK, I know…Carb Day is the day they are supposed to be doing some laps to fine-tune their carburetors for the race on Sunday. Do Indy cars still have carburetors? I would think they would even be beyond fuel-injectors by now…to nuclear fission or something… but it was interesting seeing what was happening. Truly amazing at how many people turn out for “the day before the day before the race”. Many thousands…people everywhere. The weather was great and everyone was enjoying themselves. I got to see some cars and even watched a little racing too. They ran a hundred-miler I wasn’t expecting. The Firestone Freedom 100. If you do the math, it’s 40 times around the track.

And somehow I managed to stay away from the funnel cake stand.
