This is truly one of the landmark buildings in Indianapolis. There has been a city market on this location at 222 E. Market Street since the 1820′s. A larger building replaced the first one in 1886, a lot of which has been preserved and still a part of the current structure. The Market has undergone a lot of changes over the years as the times themselves changed. And now, there’s lot’s of debabte as to what it’s future will be. Almost everyone seems to agree that some big changes are needed. So far it’s just talk…but it will be interesting to see what the next chapter for the City Market will be.
While I was taking these shots a few days ago, I got into a friendly conversation with a man who was coming out of the Market and I forgot about the time left on the parking meter. So, these photos ended up costing me $20. It’s funny now, but not at the time. I saw the meter police just leaving my car as I approached it. So I was close…but not close enough. Paying my dues as a photographer I guess.
