Walking

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by Richard. Categories: Community Feature, Sports & Recreation.

The streets have been so icy for a while that eventually my normal routine of jogging was disrupted and instead I’ve just been walking occasionally, running a little when the ice is clear in spots. Sometimes instead I exercised and “ran” using the Wii Fit when it’s been really snowy…which is really fun and a more serious way of getting exercise than you’d think if you haven’t tried it. But today I had some time and

Wall of Windows

If you’ve read some of the recent posts here, I talked in one about some new exhibits at the Indiana State Museum about Abraham Lincoln. Well, I went there to see them myself yesterday. The museum controls the number of people who go through so it doesn’t get too crowded, letting a certain number of people enter every 15 minutes. I was told the average person goes through the exhibits in about 45 minutes.

What struck me about this scene is that could be any one of an infinite number of places almost anywhere in rural Indiana this time of year. But I shot this photo on the NE side of Indy in an area close to the Upper Fall Creek Loop Trail…part of the Fall Creek Greenway.

Enduring Words

I had to get a plug in for some special exhibits coming to the Indiana State Museum soon. After all, it’s about one of my favorite characters of all time, Abraham Lincoln. How could anyone invent a better American success story? Born and raised in a log cabin in the wilderness…and eventually becoming the President of the United States. What a story line. Abe was a Hoosier too, just like us, for

Cycling Fever?

Last Fall, bike lanes were added along side automobile traffic lanes of a few major streets in town, like where these shots were taken on Allisonville Road on the NE side. And who knows, maybe it’s too soon to tell what’s going to happen. To be fair, the weather has turned colder since they’ve been officially open. But I personally have never seen anyone use the new Bike Lanes yet for the purpose

One win away

Normally I’d refrain from two posts in a row that had a similar subject, but this is special circumstances. With the win today, the Colts are the AFC Champions and will be competing in the Superbowl in two weeks. That’s quite an accomplishment in itself for any team, but I know they won’t be satisfied with just going there. They want to bring home the Lombardi Trophy and NFL Championship banner.

The American Story

Posted on January 18th, 2010 by Richard. Categories: Community Feature, Holidays.

This being Martin Luther King Day and a national holiday, I thought a little more than usual about how I felt and what I would post. While Martin Luther King is closely associated with civil rights and racial equality, I think his message essentially spoke to one of our most basic of  American values. Mutual respect of each other. This is the same principle or lack thereof that drove the Pilgrims to Plymouth Rock
