January Skyline

How soon we forget. You have a few warm days and it’s so easy to block out the memory of the big chill a little while ago. I liked this shot and salted it away to bring out later for added effect. The sky had been very dark that day, but those clouds finally moved onward to the east, as you can see behind the buildings, and then the sun

Arts Garden – Outside-In

I loved this structure and the concept from the first time I saw early drawings of what it was going to be. One of the most impressive features in downtown Indianapolis, not merely because of the distinctive architecture, but because it brings the converging elements of downtown together…spanning major arteries and linking adjacent hotels, businesses and Circle Centre. Years later, it’s still exciting to drive or walk around the corner, look down and see it there.

The Mall

This view through American Legion Mall provides a timely perspective on both the current weather conditions and the Indianapolis skyline. The white streaks that are visible, especially on dark backgrounds, are snowflakes as caught by the camera lens as they float to the ground. I was close by so I stopped to see this scene on purpose. I’m drawn to the contrast that time provides… the ‘then and now effect’ if you will. Interesting

Conventional Wisdom

If you travel down Capital Avenue near downtown, it’s easy to forget that the Hoosier Dome was ever there at all. The building that was so much a part of the downtown landscape and sports history has vanished. That was part of the deal put together to build Lucas Oil Stadium. By the way, I like it’s nickname ‘The Luke’. Has a bit more swagger don’t you think? Like it’s ‘one

Noticeable Changes

Thought it was interesting to see the progress made on the new Marriott on Washington St. downtown near White River State Park. If you go by there often, you don’t notice the changes. But over just a relatively short time, there’s a large difference. Above is the way it looks now…and below, from a similar vantage point, is the way it looked about four months ago. All of the planned 34 floors

Up and Under

I was doing a little shopping at Circle Centre the day I took this. If this were taken today it would be covered in several inches of snow. But I really liked this shot looking north into the distance on Illinois Street with the overhead walkway to Circle Centre and glass exterior of the Arts Garden  underneath beyond. I almost didn’t post it though because of the reckless driving warning  and road construction signs.

City Market

Posted on December 27th, 2009 by Richard. Categories: Community Feature, Downtown.

This is truly one of the landmark buildings in Indianapolis. There has been a city market on this location at 222 E. Market Street since the 1820’s. A larger building replaced the first one in 1886, a lot of which has been preserved and still a part of the current structure. The Market has undergone a lot of changes over the years as the times themselves changed. And now, there’s lot’s of
