Official Tree

Posted on December 24th, 2009 by Richard. Categories: Holidays, Public Buildings & Sites.

This being  the day before Christmas, I thought this photo would be appropriate. The tree this year that gets the honor of standing in the Capital Rotunda is a 23 year old, 25 ft. Concolor Fir. It was grown in a tree farm in northern Indiana, cut and brought to the Capital building earlier this month. The ornaments visible were made by children from area schools which they hung during recent holiday festivities. I

Seasonal Market

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by Richard. Categories: Holidays, Market Conditions.

In other parts of the country where the weather stays warmer, the effects aren’t quite as noticeable, but in central Indiana the real estate market generally slows down somewhat this time of year. Partly due to the weather, as most people don’t feel much like moving when it’s colder…and partly due to the holiday season itself, as people prioritize their time toward holiday preparations, travel, shopping, parties, etc. There’s just less time

Lights and Imagination

Most of the time, people are fairly conventional about the look of their home. Seems like there is an unwritten code that they adhere to to fit in with others in their neighborhoods and community. Keeping your yard as green as your neighbors is one of these rules. Having popular bushes and landscaping planted around the perimeter is another. And now, everyone wants architectural or dimensional shingles instead of the flat

Holiday Glow at the Circle

Posted on December 3rd, 2009 by Richard. Categories: Downtown, Holidays.

If anyone still isn’t feeling any of the holiday spirit, get off the couch and take a drive downtown in the evening sometime soon and look around. Monument Circle is all decked out for the season with colorful lights and decorations. And that’s just the beginning. It’s the whole downtown area really. It has been transformed into a magical place adorned for the holidays. A visit here can’t help but jump-start the holiday

Gathering for the Feast

Thanksgiving Day is a special day for most of us. Most of us have the day off or have taken the day off from work duties. Around my house I could smell something cooking in the kitchen from the moment I woke up, as preparations had begun early for the traditional Thanksgiving meal later today. It’s the only holiday I can think of that is like that…where the main focus is the

Jack-o-lantern

Witches, Goblins, Vampires, Demons and Ghosts? They all come alive tonight! The door-to-door Trick-or-Treat ritual will literally bring these spirits out on the streets along with Pixies, Football players, Batmans, Princesses, Cowboys, Iron Mans, Gypsies and everything else you can think of. My approach to Halloween treats is…always buy too much so you don’t run out…and purchase the kind of candy that you like so that you can have whatever is left over. That seems to

Ka…Booom!

A magnificent aerial display. The sky went from dark as midnight to bright as high noon in a split second with an incredible explosion that rocked the airwaves and sent thousands of light fibers flying from the explosion’s center core. Then secondary explosions erupted with ivory colored filaments expanding…turning to flame red…and back again to bright ivory in every direction. An incredible light show……courtesy of Mother Nature?
