Crowded Airspace

I’ve been dazzled lately watching the activity around the Butterfly Bushes that I’ve seen. I can’t remember a year when there have been more butterflies, and of all varieties and colors. Recently I watched as dozens of them flitted silently along, delicately flapping their wings, circling and jockeying for landing space on the outstretched limbs and blossoms. An amazing aerial show.

I thought there must be another REAL name for a Butterfly Bush. It just sounded

Perfect Weather

Posted on July 8th, 2010 by Richard. Categories: Nature.

We’ve had a good stretch of great weather lately with lower humidiy and temperatures than before. Very enjoyable. Then it was back to oven again. The trick to me though is to enjoy every day, no matter what the weather is that day. I know that’s harder to do sometimes…like when it’s late January and it’s freezing cold with solid gray skies day after day. Just makes you appreciate this time

I liked this photo. View of part of Holcomb Gardens near Butler University. The gazebo looks inviting don’t you think?

Gone Fishin

I’m wondering is it just me or are others noticing more of these characters around than in years past? I realize this is the second time in recent weeks that I’ve commented about Blue Herons, but they keep crossing my path. This time by the water company canal near Butler University. One came flying in to perch nearby before I had my camera ready and positioned themself just offshore…standing there motionless as any

Trellis Mandala

Just a photo I liked. Taken in the gardens south of Oldfields Lilly House, Indianapolis Museum of Art. I was drawn to the symmetrical design that the trellis made. To me it was like a simple mandala. While gazing at it there, the scent from the flowering plants made the experience even more delightful.

There’s an infinite number of other things to gaze upon and enjoy at IMA…another discovery around every corner. An amazing place.

Visual Sighting

Posted on May 22nd, 2010 by Richard. Categories: Nature.

Standing on the deck of a home overlooking Geist Lake, a large grayish bird with enormous wingspan drew my attention as it descended slowly, crossing left to right. It took only a second for me to realize it was a Blue Heron. Nothing else looks quite like that. It came in to land softly near the shore, and stood craning it’s neck and gazing at the water. There are quite a few Blue Herons

I was with some customers looking at a home the other day and encountered these Hostas, growing with some of their companions in a semi-shady area in the gardens surrounding a house we were looking at. I almost always have a camera close by as you never know what you will stumble on. I guess I have this thing for Hostas. Something basic, primal about their shape, colors and demeanor.
