Float Trip

Posted on January 31st, 2010 by Richard. Categories: Nature, Video Flash.

OK, it’s 10 degrees outside, what would you like to do? I’d imagine going for swim outside would not make the top five answers. But maybe if you were a goose in Indianapolis, it just might?

Saw these guys enjoying themselves in Fall Creek today. They would float along slowly with the current…and then all turn around at the same time and paddle back up stream and do it all over

Windy Day

Posted on December 9th, 2009 by Richard. Categories: Nature, Video Flash.

Temperatures can change dramatically this time of year, with warm and cold fronts colliding to produce lots of wind, surprising gusts and precipitation. Today was definitely one of those days. A strong and constant wind drove flecks of snow nearly sideways at times. I noticed a lone pine tree that was facing the elements head-on, bent and swaying from the steady current. A photo tells the story better than I ever could.

Pyramid Effect

Posted on October 28th, 2009 by Richard. Categories: Community Feature, Just for Fun, Video Flash.

As I settled in and gazed at it’s shape, eventually I thought about the pyramids in the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu in Peru and in Teotihuacan in Mexico. Just what had inspired this creation here in Indianapolis on the IUPUI campus? This certainly can’t compete with the scale of any of those other structures…but then again, none of those other pyramids have water cascading down the sides of them either. So

Flaps Up…Gear Down

I went through the new airport facility recently and just had to say something. Wow…what a difference from the one I remember from the old days. The Indianapolis International Airport was relocated and rebuilt from the ground up last year. The earlier version from the 50′s is like a bus station compared to this latest creation.  The place reminds me now a little bit like being at one of the mega-exhibits at Epcot in

Fountain of Knowledge

I figure if the fountain is located in University Park then it must be a “fountain of knowledge”? OK…well, maybe that’s a stretch for literary purposes. But then again…I sat within eyesight of this fountain recently on a park bench for only about 10 minutes…and learned some things.

While I was there, I talked with a boy of about 12 who was waiting for his mother. He

Trackside

A lot of people headed out to the Speedway today. But even if you don’t go to the track, if you live in or near Indianapolis, you know what today is…it’s Race Day. If you are outdoors as the race is being run, you can hear the roar of the cars for miles in any direction, and surprisingly a lot farther if the wind and atmosphere are just right.
