Water Feature

bell-tower-pond
I’m not sure if there is an official name for this pond? But there probably is. I just call it Bell Tower Pond. It’s on the Butler University campus at the foot of the bell tower there. There probably is an official name for the bell tower too. They always name something after somebody, have you noticed that? Buildings, bridges, highways, parks and ponds too sometimes I bet.

Regardless of the name and origin, the pond is a nice feature here. It’s surrounded by woods and the setting is idyllic. The only thing not idyllic to me is the constant sound of the man-made fountain. It’s not really that loud, more like the sound of a soft shower, but I like things as close to natural as possible. To me it would be best if there was total serenity. Then the pond would get my 100% idyllic stamp of approval.

Still it’s a great place if you have a few minutes and feel like decompressing. The thing that’s interesting to me is the large, and I mean LARGE goldfish that are visible here and there. Some of these guys are close to a foot long. I’m guessing they were probably cute pets at one time, but brought secretly to the “big water” and set free when Tommy or Susie lost interest. I guess for a fish it would be better than a small bowl? But who knows what goes through the mind of a goldfish.

One thing, with the bell tower there…it chimes occasionally like a large grandfather clock. So after decompressing and loosing touch with reality for a while,  it will automatically snap you back the real world so you won’t be late to an appointment. Now that’s service.
